OK - well - where to start. We went to see the GI that Dr. nondude suggested. (Howard and I were against this at first). But - - - - well - Mom and I went. It is a really nice place - anyway. When the Dr GI came in he relayed to us that he was told by Dr nondude to talk to us about a feeding tube (which may not be a bad idea if she can't intake enough to gain weight). I had to tell Dr. GI that it was I who insisted on a second opinion about my mother and since the ER had diagnosed her with gastroparesis that it be a GI. Dr. Nondude apparently told Dr. GI that Gin was on her last legs, that the sever scaring to her lungs was causing her end (um - scaring??????? what scaring said Gin (and I thought "what happened to total organ shutdown"???)
Dr. GI called Dr F (lung man) and had his notes faxed over - guess what - wanna guess - THERE ISN'T SCARING and Dr. F doesn't think she's on her last legs - sigh. She does have BOOP and that is a bad lung disease, but, well - I have much calling to do now and get the HELL away from this - (I am not going to do slander, but you can guess the word). Both Mom and her brother don't want me to drop Dr. Nondude without getting another GP in place and that is, regrettable, a good idea. The wellness clinician suggested three doctors (real doctors as in MD's) who are shall we say in tune with holistic healing - and I have others I got from the an internists who is at my church.
The good thing about this - this got Mom mad. She said that that prognosis wasn't acceptable. She calls this now a "betrayal". Dr. GI, after he read Dr. F's assessment, really changed his insistence for the feeding tube. He helped us come up with a calorie per day (1500-1800 or more) and after she gains some weight, and if she still has the tightness in her belly, he will look at her. He also helped us think of high calorie food to by. He was very receptive to us and listened very well. I mentioned my brothers death 2 years ago, Aunts a year ago, Ralph the wonder dog, and our friend Micki Adams who was a close family friend - she died rather suddenly and is younger than Gin (that was just before she got pneumonia and ended up in the hospital) - a really groovy lady too - All that death - doesn't it play into the situation?? Dr. GI could not prescribe antidepressants, and all say that is Dr. Nondude's place - so - either I get some prosac off the Internet, get Mom on vitamin B (already did that actually) or make her reflect on what is creating this wall (if it is a mind thing) and figure out a way to break it down so she will get hungry and eat willingly.
